EPRI-IEA-IETA Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading

This event is co-organized by EPRI, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA). The annual workshop takes place at the IEA Headquarters in Paris, France.

This invitation-only workshop brings together 130+ senior officials from OECD countries, the European Union and other nations, corporate executives from electric companies, energy-intensive industries, brokerage companies and the financial community, analysts and researchers from non-governmental organizations

The workshop will combine presentations based on recent research with highly interactive discussions. Topics to be covered this year include:

  • New evolving carbon markets around the world in the United States, Australia, India, Mexico and South Africa;
  • How national governments have organized themselves to comply with the Kyoto Protocol and potential future international policies to reduce GHG emissions;
  • Potential impact of GHG emission reduction requirements on industrial competitiveness and emission leakage, and the potential role of “border carbon adjustments;”
  • Impact of carbon prices on industrial and electric sector investment decisions;
  • Near-term (2012-2020) opportunities and limitations for crediting large-scale offset projects that reduce deforestation and forest degradation in tropical forests;
  • The response of existing and emerging carbon markets to the recent global economic downturn; and,
  • Potential implications for the evolution of carbon markets from a post-2012 international climate change agreement in Copenhagen in 2009.
